Objectives

Main objective of this project is to provide a geoscientific solution for increasing the renewable (geothermal) energy production in northwest Romania. This will lead to a decrease in actual CO2 emissions generated by electrical and thermal energy production using fossil fuel. To achieve this objective, newly acquired and existing geological, geochemical, hydrogeological and geophysical data will be analysed and interpreted in order to image subsurface geothermal reservoirs considered suitable for exploitation.

The secondary objectives of the project are:

1) To establish a long-term partnership collaboration between the University of Bucharest (Romania) and University of Oslo (Norway);

2) To increase the research capacity of both partners through increasing the number of young researchers involved in the performing of the project activities; work visits in Romania and Norway will be arranged by both partners for the young researchers involved in the project;

3) To support and enhance the active participation of Romania and Norway in the European Research Area.
